Triumph Pavilion - Showcase Peace Pavilion - Contest 2013
Location: Museums Gardens, Bethnal Green, London
Area site: 20m2 / 4m height
The proposed Peace pavilion is making use of visually translated message of geometrical language of Nubian pyramid. Specifically, it uses the two most dominant elements rectangle (former entrance) and triangle (former pyramid).
This Peace pavilion conceives the idea of visualising the hope for peace in Sudan by transforming the annotative aspects of the Sudanese iconic structure. It is something that north and south nations inherited together - The most important vernacular architectural symbol of the nation - The Nubian pyramid.
The pavilion itself is structured as peaceful and iconic space, preserving the aspect of memory of one nation. The outline of the pyramid is the analogy to common history of the region. The pavilion is designed to be whole simple and white.
White is the color of clarity and purity. It creates calm and quiet space – as if fully composed of light and its playful variations during the day.
As the sun is moving during the day, the openings on both sides create variety of light tracks. The pavilion specific orientation (N, S) causes that when the sun is at the midday position (12 P.M.), the main triangular apertures in front and on the top of the pavilion are in parallel with the sun rays. The light coming inside at this hour defines the “peace path”.
The object geometry is generative translation of nubian pyramid elements: rectangle (entrance) and triangle (pyramid).
